Attention rowers, gym-goers, Hyroxers, Crossfitters and all fitness enthusiasts. On Sunday February 22 Community Rowing, in partnership with Rowing Ireland, will host the first Wicklow Community Rowing Indoors Challenge at Shoreline Greystones.
This is an open event that has something for everyone and it makes a great training goal for the New Year. The aim is to bring together rowers and fitness enthusiasts from Co. Wicklow and beyond and to encourage participation from a wide range of fitness levels by offering a choice of three individual challenges and two team relay races.
Participants can choose to row one or more of the following challenges: one minute for max distance or 1000m or 5000m for time. You will row alongside your peers in your age group category and medals will be awarded to the top three finishers in each category.
A seasoned rower may choose to race the 5K while gymgoers and Hyroxers might choose the 1K race. And who can’t row one-minute for max distance? A relay team can consist of 4 men or 4 women or a mixed crew of 2 men and 2 women.
This local event coincides with the Concept2 and World Rowing Virtual Indoor Rowing Challenge which takes place on the same weekend. The top finishers in each race category will be able to submit their times on the World Rowing website to potentially qualify for the finals which will take place entirely online the following weekend and will be broadcast live on the World Rowing YouTube channel.
So whether you are a seasoned rower, Hyroxer, Crossfitter or a gym-going fitness enthusiast this is an indoor rowing challenge that has something for everyone. Registration opens in January.
There is plenty of time to train for this but February will be here soon. Starting the first week of January Community Rowing is offering a 6 week programme to prepare for the event. So join the Rowing Resolution and let’s get going!
