Rowing is both an individual and a team activity and sport. At Community Rowing we emphasise the camaraderie of team rowing because it is more fun and it is more effective than rowing on your own. It may be a cliché but it’s a fact that we are stronger when we pull together. On the water team rowing can consist of a pair (double), a four (quad) or an eight. There is a reason why the Eight is the fastest boat in the sport of rowing.
The beauty of indoor rowing is that we can get the same health and fitness benefits of rowing on the water and we are not limited to 8 people in a boat! Indoor rowing is also a sport and team activity. At Community Rowing we crew together in teams of all shapes and sizes regardless of age or fitness level.
The Concept2 indoor rower closely replicates on-the water rowing ie; flat water rowing on a river or lake as opposed to rowing on the sea in a skiff with a fixed seat. The sliding seat movement of the indoor rower mimics how you row in a shell and is one of the reasons why Olympic rowers use “the erg” so much but any body of any fitness level and any age can use indoor rowing as a safe low-impact form of exercise to improve their health and fitness. Rowing provides a full-body workout.
Concept2 defines community as a group of people that align in common characteristics and similarities usually in the same place or location. Community Rowing has classes in Greystones and Bray.
Now more than ever we need to interact with each other in the physical realm in a supportive and meaningful way, beyond home and work, in spaces “third places” where we gather out of a shared desire for connection, camaraderie, and the simple joy of being welcomed just as we are. And what is more important and worthwhile than making time to exercise to maintain or improve your physical and mental health.
At Community Rowing it’s all about teamwork. We literally pull together unified in our effort to work toward the same goal and to succeed. It could be one of the Concept2 team rowing challenges held throughout the year or some friendly in-class competition. Come join our Community of rowing.
