The 2025 “Virtual” World Indoor Rowing Championships.

Have you ever thought about competing in an official indoor rowing race? ‘Tis the season! This month the British indoor rowing championships were held in Birmingham, and next month the annual Irish indoor rowing championships will take place at the University of Limerick. But you don’t have to travel far to experience the challenge and the excitement of an indoor rowing race. And you don’t have to be a seasoned rower either – just enthusiastic and ready to push yourself on a rowing machine.

In February, the 2025 World Indoor Rowing Championships will take place virtually for the first time since the pandemic in 2021. That year, the sport of indoor rowing moved online, and ever since then, live online rowing has become a worldwide trend. The 2025 WRICH finals will be held over the last two weekends in February, and the qualifying heats are open to anyone of any age and any ability until January 20th. It’s a unique opportunity to put your training to the test from your own rowing machine, without ever leaving your local gym or home setup.

Greystones Rowing Club is inviting motivated fitness enthusiasts of all ages who are interested in participating in the Virtual 2025 WRICH to join us in January for an Open Heats qualifier event. Participants can choose one or two individual race distances – a 500m sprint and the standard 2000m distance. There are also two 4-person team relay races to choose from – a 4 x 500m relay and a 5K relay between 4 people. A relay team can consist of four men, four women, or a mixed crew of 2 men and 2 women. All events will be hosted at Greystones Rowing Club’s indoor training facility.

For the individual 500m and 2000m races, the age group categories are every 5 years from age 40, for example 40-44 and 45-49, etc. Below age 40, the open category is age 23 to 39.
