The HOCR 4072m Winter Erg Challenge

The Head of the Charles River is the world’s biggest multi-day rowing regatta that caters to rowers of all ages and all levels. For the past 60 years the regatta has taken place in Boston every October except for the year 2020 when due to the pandemic the regatta was held as a global remote event. Participants were given the option to row the 4702 meters (3 miles) on an indoor rowing machine or on their chosen body of water and to submit their time on the Regatta Central website.

Ever since then the 4702HOCR has become an annual winter erg challenge for rowers and erg enthusiasts. Just shy of 5K and more than twice the distance of the standard 2K race it makes a great opportunity to test your rowing endurance in the middle of the indoor season. Just row your piece on any erg between Jan 27th and Feb 2nd and submit your time on Regatta Central for a chance to win a medal or pin and a new Concept2 RowErg!

Next month the 2025 World Indoor Rowing Championships will take place entirely online and the Open Heat qualifiers are open to everyone. The entry deadline has been extended to Feb 3rd. There are two individual race distances to choose from – a 500m sprint and a 2K – and two team relay races over the 2K and 5K distance. A team relay can be comprised of four men or four women or a mixed crew of two men and two women so there is something for everyone!
